To stay current with the new features of TeamSite 7.1, we sent an away team to the Interwoven headquarters in San Jose, CA to learn about the latest release.  For those unfamiliar with the TeamSite product suite, it manages content, empowers business users to create web pages with a WYSIWYG editor, manages workflows between business units, deploys content to servers, and much more.  Click here to learn more basics about TeamSite, what it is and what it does.  During our deep-dive seminar and training, we met with partners, vendors and Interwoven team members comparing notes, tips, tricks and best practices.

One of the highlights of these sessions is getting to hear about all new technologies that have been released and seeing a road map for the future.  For example, TeamSite SitePublisher pages have been enhanced with the “Next Generation surf and edit” capabilities.  This allows the content author to edit in a wiki-like inline editing mode.  Users will be able to make changes and preview to a web site from within the same window.  This feature will help provide a richer in-context experience and also allow for improved multivariate testing of content.  Another new feature is Nested Fixed Area Layouts which allows SitePublisher to utilize newer web page designs with fewer compromises in design implementation.  In all, it was a jam packed week.  Now that we’re back from San Jose, we are psyched to start putting all these features into action!

overdriveThis is the second part of a small mobile internet experiment.  In part one, I used a jailbroken iPhone and tethering to fulfill all my internet needs, you can read the details here.  This time, I tried to use the Srint Overdrive as my ISP, the keyword is “tried”. See More

Can you give up your Cable/DSL/Fiber-optic internet service? On a whim, I decided to put my cable internet service on hold for a while just to see if I could use my iPhone and it’s unlimited data plan for all my browsing needs. I’m not a heavy internet user, but I was actually very surprised at how much data I do consume over the month, yes there’s an app for that! In this two part series, I’ll cover my experience using a jailbroken iPhone to tether, the second installment will be about connectivity with Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G, with my final thoughts on the two methods.

I received an invitation to join Google Voice a few months ago and I wasn’t too sure if the service was worth the effort to set up. But an invitation to a true Google beta program is pretty rare, so I decided to try the service out for a while and re-evaluate my participation. For those that don’t know, Google Voice is a service that allows a single phone number to ring multiple phones with filtering for contact, group, time of day, or any combination of the three. Google Voice also provides numerous features such as: free web-based text messaging and even free mobile phone messaging when used with the appropriate mobile app, transcribed voice mail, and the ability to initiate a phone call from the web. I was able to download GV Mobile into my iPhone before Apple booted it from the app store, I consider myself pretty lucky as I can use the Google Voice services a little more brainlessly (is this even a word) than non-GV Mobile users. First let’s discuss one downside with the concept of call forwarding, how I was able to work past it and then all the glorious features Google has thrown in that should have you clicking over to sign up for an account. Agile Software Development is a huge buzz word these days. Companies are looking for methods to run leaner and more productive teams and to achieve higher customer satisfaction. Webster’s Dictionary defines agile as “marked by ready ability to move with quick easy grace” and “having a quick resourceful and adaptable character”. The Agile Manifesto officially states four pillars of Agile Software Development:

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan See More

A co-worker asked me what I though of the Palm and my reaction was “Is Palm still in business?”  My interest was piqued after a brief rundown of the features and I had to do more research.  The Palm Pre boasted some great features like a 3.2mp camera, hardware Qwerty keyboard, Web OS and Adobe Flash support, the list goes on and on.  In fact   On paper I calculated that the Pre was far superior to the iPhone 3g.  This was the perfect smartphone!  Or so I thought.
