I know these have been out for awhile but I just stumbled upon them the other day. I love teddy bears and all cute stuffed animals and I love sneakers, so you’d think I’d love these. And I kind of do. They are just so crazy over the top. I mean it’s like wearing slipper sneakers. Can you imagine hopping on the bus with these kicks? Stares for miles.

They aren’t readily available but if you search around ebay you are likely to find one of these hot pairs for a pretty penny.

It’s kind of funny and kind of sad that it’s taken me this long to finally make it out to MAGIC given the various ties I have to it. But I finally bit the bullet and made time for it this go around, and I’m glad I did. So what is MAGIC you might ask? The MAGIC Marketplace is a three-day fashion industry event that takes place twice a year (February and August) in Las Vegas. It’s considered one of the biggest and most influential fashion events in the country. MAGIC is essentially divided into eight different sub-shows plus one accompanying show, POOL.

* MAGIC MENSWEAR
Fashionable menswear that you’d find at Macy’s or Nordstrom such as Perry Ellis, Dockers, and Johnston & Murphy.

* WWDMagic
Fashionable womenswear such as BCBGMAXAZRIA, DKNY, Diane von Furstenberg, and Miss Sixty.

* FN Platform
Full range of women’s, men’s, junior’s and kid’s shoe brands under one roof.

* PROJECT
Stylish and contemporary men’s and women’s brands such as Ben Sherman, Lacoste, Addidas, Diesel, Nooka, and Joe’s Jeans.

* S.L.A.T.E.
Select. Lifestyle. Apparel. Trend. Emergence. A small selection of established men’s and women’s brands within the skate, street, and surf community such as X-Large, Obey, Stussy, TokiDoki and Skullcandy.

* STREET
Young men’s brands such as Rocawear, Ecko and Tapout that target hip hop culture, sportswear, and streetwear.

* PREMIUM
Contemporary men’s denim, sportswear, and accessory brands such as Ed Hardy, Levis, Fossil and Lucky Brand Jeans.

* Sourcing at Magic
Apparel and footwear supply chain manufacturers, textile resources, fabric mills, and component suppliers.

* POOLTRADESHOW
Fresh and creative brands that you’d find in more boutique shops and have yet to establish themselves in the major markets plus a few established lifestyle brands such as American Apparel, Palmer Cash, and Threadless.

I don’t know about everyone else but when I got my iPhone I was obsessed with finding the perfect case for it. After tireless searching and just needing something to protect my precious phone I settled on a basic black slider case from Incase. It serves it’s purpose and it’s done me well for nearly two years now. But I have grown tired of my boring case by now. Thankfully I stumbled upon these Uncommon cases. The company makes cases for iPhones and will soon launch them for the iPad, iTouch and Blackberry Storm II.

I have always loved adidas Originals as a brand. The Originals division of the popular footwear/streetwear brand has always been a bit more edgey with it’s design and advertising. This latest commercial, featuring a remix of Dee Edwards’ “Why Can’t There Be Love”, is part of a new campaign for 2010 where adidas Originals is welcoming us, the consumer, to their neighborhood. And what a fly neighborhood it is. With the likes of David Beckham, Snoop Dogg, and Noel Gallagher kickin’ it in this hood, this is definitely “The Street Where Originality Lives.”

All this talk of the new year. Obama’s second year in office. The continuing “war on terror.” The (hopefully) upward-turning economy. New music releases. The Oscars. So much comes with the new year. So let’s pause for a second and talk about something truly important for this new year.

Color.

I’m sure most of you never think about what kind of color the year will be. And you know what, that’s ok. You don’t have to. The fabulous people at Pantone, “an X-Rite company and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries” (phew that was a mouth full!) have come up with the color of 2010 for us. In fact they have been doing this for a few years now.

2007: Chili pepper
2008: Blue iris
2009: Mimosa

For 2010, Pantone has named Turquoise as the color of the year. Turquoise? Not some fancy name like Sea breeze or Ocean spray? Ah well, at least we all know what the color Turquoise is by name. So why Turquoise? According to Pantone:

“Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise inspires thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.”

Well I wouldn’t have thought Turquoise when thinking about this coming year, but when they put it like that, it sounds pretty spot on. 2009 was pretty rough for all of us and a sense of wellbeing and feeling of escape from the everyday troubles would be great right about now. So I’m on board with this color for 2010. Now, will I be using it willy nilly in my design work? Probably not. It’s not a color to be thrown around lightly. But perhaps a little accent here or there would be nice. What does everyone else think about this color choice? Put your thoughts in the comments below.

Fashion icon Tom Ford has made his cinematic debut with “A Single Man” starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore. The film is adapted from the 1964 novel by Christopher Isherwood and looks like a Vanity Fair spread come to life. The fashion and set design are spot on of course and the film itself (well at least the trailer) looks intriguing. I can’t wait to see this. And I suspect Paula will be right there with me.

As far back as I can remember, Halloween was always my favorite time of year, second only to occasions where I would receive gifts. As much as I loved it, the act of picking out a costume was a guaranteed downer. Digging through heaping piles of plastic disasters only to end up with the oh-so unimpressive rubber band mask and painted plastic smock began my career as a costume maker.

So it’s that time of year again and for all of you who have yet to pick out your costume, consider these many fine options of homemade splendor.

Earlier this year (sorry folks, I’m a bit slow on the pick up) designer Marios Schwab sent out invitations to the media for his London Fall 09 Fashion Week show as usual. Except his invitations included a pair of old school 3D glasses with the half red, half cyan colored lenses. Curious indeed, but quite handy when his models graced the runway wearing dresses made with 3D prints. See More
