It has been brought to my attention that the current Amon Tobin tour is simply amazing. Watch the YouTube video above to see the trailer for the show. It is truly a masterful Audio Visual experience complete with an amazing set piece created to work beautifully with the projections and music. The tour is currently running through the US and will hit the Los Angeles area in a little over a week. More info about the show, installation, photography, etc, available here.

The Wilderness Downtown

There has certainly been a lot of anticipation about the innovation and rich experiences HTML5 will bring, particularly with regard to multimedia. Despite a nebulous timetable for widespread support and adoption, a lot of exciting work has already begun. On August 30th, the official Google blog announced the release “of a musical experience made specifically for the browser” — that browser being Google Chrome. See More

iPad

It’s a plane, it’s a hot air balloon, no wait it’s just Angry Birds flying around on the iPad!  With over 250,000 apps available in the iTunes App Store, I wanted to know not just what people downloaded, but what they were using and playing.  I asked just about every person that I encountered that has an iPad to see what they were actually doing with their iPad and what apps they couldn’t live without.  Here are just a few of the favorites…

droid

There was a lot of controversy when I got my G1.  Everyone insisted I get the iPhone. Seeing that I didn’t want to change carriers I went against all of my friend’s recommendations and bought the Google Phone. I haven’t regretted the decision once!!!

Here are my top 10 favorite features:

This is one that all of us designers can appreciate. Ratatat’s video for their latest song “Drugs” is nothing more than a bunch of stock photos and video strung together. It’s painful to watch much like it’s painful to use stock photography; something we have all done at some point, for better or for worse. Enjoy…. or not…

amplitube-irig-ik100722-irig-ipad-01
As a fan of the desktop version of Amplitube, the idea of carrying around a bunch of guitar effects in my pocket is pretty cool. It’s not without a hefty price tag, relatively speaking. First off, how do you plug a guitar into your iPhone and how do you get quality sound out of it. Well, that’s what the iRig does, it adapts the 1/4″ to a 1/8″ jack that plugs into the headphone jack of your iPhone while still providing a second headphone input for your best set of headphones. Amplitube provides a free version, but if you’re going so far as to buy hardware for this, you’re not downloading the free version, you’re going for broke and spending $39.99 for your iRig and $19.99 for 12 pedal effects and 3 amp rigs. Of course you’re free to keep spending at the IK Multimedia Add-Ons store where you can continue to amass dozens of new effects pedals and more! Watch the demo

Rock Band 3 will have an incredible 83-song setlist, as well as support for your current RB music library (Rock Band and Rock Band 2 discs, DLC, track packs, AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack, LEGO Rock Band, and Green Day: Rock Band). In addition to bigger and better graphics and a brand new setlist, the standout upgrade for RB3 has to be the addition of a Keyboard! Until now Rock Band songs have intentionally excluded keyboard-centric songs, but rest assured they are more than making up for that with songs like “Sister Christian” , “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Break on Through”, and “The Power of Love”. Yah, that’s right Steve – “The Power of Love”, that’s what we have!

Music Philosophy is a weekly visual exploration of song lyrics. Designer, Mico, started this project out of a love for music and typography. I love how bold all of the designs are. You can view more on the site as well as submit a song quote if you’d like.
